I decided not to submit for a bunch of technical reasons.
The challenge was to use one of a series of stock photos to make a book cover. I used this one,
and added two more figures, one more from
and one from
with a background from my own photography of the 2008 Bristol Renaissance Fair in Bristol Wisconsin.
Images were processed in Photoshop as layers and then the glowing edges filter was applied to the whole image, which was then converted to grayscale. The image became the reference background and sketch for my hand painting on my iPad using Sketchclub.
There's an uneasiness about this work I saw early in its composition. Who are the women Really? And what do they really want. is it just to sell some perfume or something else? I usually have problems with composition and storytelling in my pieces, but this one just plain works.
